Currently, Northeast Asia surrounding the Korean Peninsula is undergoing rapid changes along with the competition for hegemony among neighboring countries.

The role of South Korea, the only divided nation in the world, and especially Pyeongtaek City, an international city where US forces are stationed, is more important than ever, and I believe that international exchanges and cooperation in areas such as environment, education, and culture are more necessary in this situation.

In line with the rapidly changing new Cold War era, Pyeongtaek City is also continuously seeking solutions in each field,
such as security, diplomacy, and national defense, pursued by the South Korean government.

As part of these efforts, we plan to hold the [2024 Pyeongtaek International Peace and Security Forum]
with the theme of “The Situation on the Korean Peninsula after the U.S. Presidential Election” to consider the connection between the tangible and intangible heritages of Pyeongtaek City, such as culture, economy, and civil society, and to seek a vision for the future of Pyeongtaek City and peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia.
